Clippers Ink Raymond Felton

Felton

Thursday Night the Los Angeles Clippers came to an agreement with free-agent Point Guard Raymond Felton. The 32 year-old signed on for the veterans minimum contract for just one season.

The former North Carolina Tarheel was a college standout. His college performances led to him being drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2005 draft by the then Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets). After starting for the majority of his five-year career in Charlotte the guard has been quite the journeyman in the league. Playing for five different teams since 2010 including the Dallas mavericks for the last two seasons, Los Angeles will be his sixth.

His best career averages came in 2010-11 where he started all 54 games he played in for the Knicks, averaging 17.1 points and 9 assists per game. While Felton won’t be asked to start for the Clippers, his position as a backup to Chris Paul will be a tall task.

What this means for the Clippers bench is a significant addition of depth. Now the team has great guard depth behind the starters that includes Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford and now Felton.

Now it would seem this has given away what will happen to the Clippers second round draft pick out of France, Point Guard David Michineau. With the addition of Felton it is believed he will be “stashed” in France until the team feels he is ready to come back to the NBA and make an impact. Given his Summer League performances the 22 year-old seems to be a year or two away from being NBA-ready.

Felton will make an immediate splash for the Clippers and his contract was truly a win for Los Angeles.
