Crawford’s 21 Not Enough Against T-Wolves

Crawford

On the Clippers last home game before a 4-game road trip they would take on the young and inconsistent Minnesota Timberwolves who were sitting at 14-36 going into Staples Center on Wednesday. Jamal Crawford would fight hard in this one as he put in 21 points but it wouldn’t be enough as Wolves win 108-102.

The Wolves came out playing well and last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins got the ball rolling. Wiggins would have 9 in the quarter for his team with some great shooting that included the games first points with a quick three ball after the tip. Los Angeles would get their first two points on an easy layup from Luc Richard Mbah a Moute but the Clippers’ leader Chris Paul would keep the team in the game with 7 points of his own as the team’s ended the first tied up at 27.

The second quarter contained some drama for the Clippers as the referee in Wednesday night’s game had apparently seen enough of Austin Rivers

Jamal Crawford would step up though and drain some critical shots for the Clipper bench, ending the half with 10 points. Meanwhile, Wiggins continued to have himself a game in Los Angeles. Dropping 21 points in the first half and seemingly hitting every shot he could against an aged Paul Pierce lined up across from him. The Clippers would lead heading into the half 55-53.

Timberwolves rookie sensation Karl Anthony Towns got himself his first basket of the game to get the ball rolling in the third for his club on an emphatic one-handed jam. This dunk ignited a huge 14-0 run for Minnesota that would see the lead flip to a 10 point advantage for the visitors. Wesley Johnson would get involved to thwart the run as he drained a three after the Clippers went over five minutes without a bucket and Los Angeles used that to come clawing back and pull it to within 2. The Clippers would trail 76-74 with one quarter left in the contest.

Jamal Crawford would keep his good game rolling into the fourth as he hit some tough shots to keep his team around. Wiggins, who had 30 against the Lakers on Tuesday, kept on scoring and made life difficult for the Clippers who were trying to make a comeback as he ended with 31 on the night. That scoring helped the Wolves stretch their lead to as many as 8 with a little more than four minutes left but a three from CP would help the Clippers get some offense going of their own and have them knot it up at 98 with just over a minute thanks to this great play,

A controversial technical foul call on Chris Paul with with 20 seconds remaining as the Clippers trailed by two hurt the team and gave the Wolves a four point lead that would prove to be insurmountable as the Wolves came away with the win.

DeAndre Jordan would end the night with yet another double-double having 18 points and 15 rebounds, meanwhile Chris Paul put in a team leading 22 points with 8 assists.

Los Angeles’ 14 game win streak against Minnesota ended on Wednesday in a game they absolutely overlooked. A poor loss for the club who seemed to be turning things around and will get a good chance on this upcoming road trip as they will start with Orlando on Friday.
