Dodgers Erase Early Deficit, Hold On To Take Series From Red Sox

@985TheSportsHub

The Dodgers got to Red Sox “ace” David Price for six runs over five innings on Sunday, en route to an easy 8-5 series clinching victory.

The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first vs a wild Brandon McCarthy. Mookie Betts drew a leadoff walk, got himself to third on a stolen base and a passed ball, and would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Xander Bogaerts. The Red Sox extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth on Andrew Benintendi‘s first career RBI, a base-hit to right. McCarthy was pulled after three and two-thirds, walking five. Josh Fields got the final out of the inning.

The Dodgers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth on Justin Turner‘s 20th home run of the season (solo shot) and a two-run double by Rob Segedin who was making his MLB debut. Jesse Chavez pitched the fifth for Los Angeles, a 1-2-3 frame.

The Dodgers added a few more in the bottom of the sixth on a run-scoring error and a two-run single by Segedin. LA took a 6-2 lead into the sixth which was when things started to get slightly interesting.

Chavez got the first out of the inning before Luis Avilan took over. Aarom Hill got the Red Sox within three on an RBI double and Andrew Benintendi got the Red Sox within two on an RBI single. It was then a 6-4 game. Joe Blanton came out of the ‘pen with two outs. David Ortiz then made the final at-bat of his career at Dodger Stadium (baring a Red Sox/Dodgers World Series matchup), drawing a pinch-hit walk.

That got the inning to Mookie Betts, who plated another on an RBI single. 6-5 Dodgers. Red Sox manager John Farrell pinch ran Friday’s starting pitcher Steven Wright at second base for David Ortiz. The inning would eventually end with no further damage,

Blanton and Jose Baez combined for a scoreless seventh, and it was not long after that when Adrian Gonzalez launched his 300th career home run to put the Dodgers up, 7-5. Enrique Hernandez went back to back with A-Gon, giving the Dodgers an 8-5 lead.

Baez pitched a 1-2-3 eighth setting things up for Kenley Jansen in the ninth, who locked down the 8-5 victory.
