Ducks Clinch Playoff Berth In OT Loss

The Anaheim Ducks fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night but punched their ticket to the NHL playoffs. Anaheim needed only one point to clinch a berth.

Jamie McGinn scored a wrist shot goal to start the game that gave Anaheim a  1-0 advantage. Brandon Pirri and Corey Perry were credited with the assists.

Tyler Bozak answered with a wrist goal of his own that went unassisted.Nazem Kadri scored a wrist shot goal for the Leafs a few minutes later. His goal was assisted Milan Michalek and Connor Brown and Toronto held a 2-1 advantage after the first period.

In the second period Bozak scored his second goal of the night. Hs goal was assisted by Kadri and Morgan Rielly and Toronto held a 3-1 lead. Frank Corrado added a backhanded goal that found the Ducks down 4-1. Brooks Laich and Ben Smith were credited with the assists.

McGinn scored his second goal of the night at the end of the period. Pirri and Getzlaf were credited with the assists and the lead was cut to 4-2.

Nine second later Andrew Cogliano scored a backhanded goal. His goal was assisted by Shawn Horcoff and Josh Manson and Anaheim entered the third period down 4-3.

Five minutes into the third period Ryan Garbutt scored a backhanded goal. His goal went unassisted and the Ducks tied the score at 4-4. Later in the period Pirri scored a backhanded goal that was assisted by Horcoff and Hampus Lindholm and Anaheim held a 5-4 advantage.

Later in the period Connor Brown scored the tying goal. Milan Michalek and Kadri were credited with the assists and the Leafs forced overtime. Although Anaheim wasn’t happy to head to overtime they got the point they needed.

Fortyone seconds into overtime Kadri scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Zach Hyman and  Rielly and Leafs beat the Ducks 6-5.
