Who Could Be LA Galaxy’s New Beckham?

Galaxy

The MLS is no longer a retirement home for Europe’s best players and these days it is much more dependent on player development and home grown talent than it is on recruiting stars from the European continent who are starting to be past their prime.

However, many fans still long for the good old days when they could dream for Europe’s biggest stars to come and join their club. Having stars of David Beckham’s or Thiery Henry’s caliber certainly boosts fans’ moral and it has been proven to increase the numbers of people in the stands and at home in front of the TV.

It is even claimed that having a very famous player in a league such as the MLS can increase betting and wagering on football tenfold and betting enthusiasts say that if there was a recognizable household name in a league they don’t know about, they would bet on it anyway. They say that they would happily visit an online betting operator such as sport.netbet.co.uk if they saw a star name in any of the lineups.

So who could be the new David Beckham for the LA Galaxy and for the MLS? Are there still players out there who can command such popularity to a league only by moving there. We feel that there certainly are some players who can do that and here are our two prime candidates.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the two best soccer players in the world together with Lionel Messi and he is currently on top of the world both trophy and ability wise. It is speculated that Real Madrid are considering offering him a new contract which will tie him up with the club for a further couple of years, but it is not inconceivable to think that one day he might play for a club such as LA Galaxy.

He is the closest that a player can be to David Beckham and would very likely have even bigger impact on the league. Shirt sales would sky rocket and the popularity of LA Galaxy matches will be unprecedented.

He is also likely to hold some interest towards moving to Los Angeles as the city would suit his lifestyle perfectly and the warmer climate will be much better for his recovery times than if he were to join Jose Mourinho back at Manchester United.

Neymar

Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG for a world record fee and one has the feeling that the Brazilian star is once again unsettled in the French capital. What he needs is a place where he will have the freedom to express himself on the pitch, but also a lifestyle to match his flamboyance on the soccer field.

That’s why, we feel that the one day he might decide that a change of scenery and moving to the MLS will do him a world of good. It is not likely that this will come to fruition soon, but one has a sneaky feeling that it might actually happen.
