Los Angeles Clippers vs. Toronto Raptors Recap 11/22

Uninspired. Disinterested. Lazy.

Honestly those are the kindest words I can think of to explain the Clippers play as of late and it certainly followed the team back into Staples today throughout the first half. Los Angeles would battle back in the second half but would not be able to pull out a win on Sunday, losing to the Raptors 91-80.

Chris Paul and Blake Griffin had only their third game ever playing together where they were both held scoreless in the first quarter and the second quarter didn’t get any better, it actually got much, much worse.

The Clippers went over seven minutes being held scoreless in the second quarter while Toronto just kept building their lead. DeMarre Carroll could not possibly have been any more open on the offensive end and ended the first half with 21 points. The Clippers as a whole only had 34 and would lose the quarter 30-11. J.J. Redick knocked in 13 points in the half, most of which came in the first quarter. Meanwhile Blake Griffin who ended the half with three fouls had a whopping 0 points and Chris Paul had 4. Los Angeles had 13 turnovers in the half and trailed Toronto 63-34 heading into quarter number three.

The Clippers showed a little fight in the third quarter. Despite getting nothing from Blake Griffin who only had 2 points total by the time the quarter ended, J.J. Redick, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan looked like they had finally had enough. Defense came up big for Los Angeles as the Clippers won the quarter 21-8 and would trail the Raptors 71-55 heading into the final quarter of play. The Clippers ended the quarter on an 8-0 run.

The Clippers started the fourth quarter continuing their run and would have the Raptors lead cut down to 11 with just over 10 minutes left in the game. Toronto would be able to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game however, but the energy late in the game is a good sign moving forward for Los Angeles.

Blake Griffin would end the game with 9 points, 4 assists and 6 rebounds. Meanwhile DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul would each get double-doubles in the loss. J.J. Redick was the team’s leading scorer against Toronto with 17 points.

The Clippers dropped their third straight game on Sunday and their season record has fallen to a dismal 6-7. It isn’t time for panic yet in Clipper Nation but it certainly is time to make some changes for Doc Rivers and company.
