RECAP: Lakers 104, Nets 98

The Los Angeles Lakers picked up their first win of the season, with a 104-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

It took a while but the Lakers are in the win column, thanks to a good performance from Kobe Bryant, who led the team in scoring with 18 points. D’Angelo Russell scored a career-high 16 points, on an impressive 6 for 9 from the field, while grabbing 4 rebounds and leading the team in stealswith 3. Jordan Clarkson played the most minutes of any player on the team (33), and gave the team another solid game with 16 points, 3 assist and 2 steals.

Julius Randle and Roy Hibbert both lead the team in rebounds with 7. Roy Hibbert’s dominance on the defensive side was one of the keys to this Lakers win, as the big man came up with three blocks to help shut down the Nets inside game.

The Lakers bench played decently, 25 solid minutes from Lou Williams and 16 from Nick Young both players added 10 points each. Larry Nance Jr. made his season debut and made his presence known, scoring 6 points and grabbed 5 boards to give the team a big lift on the defensive side.

Inside some of the numbers from this game, the Lakers shot 77% from the free-throw line, while the Nets were at 75%. Brooklyn shot a very dreadful 15% from 3-point range, 3-19 and the Lakers were better, going 7 for 23, 30% for the game.

NEXT UP FOR THE LAKERS:

The Lakers will spend the night in the New York, and will take on Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 PST. The Lakers will be facing a familiar face on the sidelines, in Head Coach and former Lakers Guard Derek Fisher, who has his team playing well. The Knicks are currently 2-4 on the season, with a very impressive win over the Milwaukee Bucks on opening night and a seven point win over the Washington Wizards on Halloween Night.

This should be a very good and competitive game between the two teams, as both are looking to improve from last season. The Lakers are coming into this game with a 1-1 road record, while the Knicks are winless at the Garden. Los Angeles (1-4), are four game behind the leaders, the Golden State Warriors in the Pacific Division.
