Recap: Padres 6, Giants 4

Another beautiful day in San Diego as the Padres aimed to take 3 out of 4 from the visiting San Francisco Giants.
Tyson Ross got the start for the Friars, opposed by former Padres Great Jake Peavy. Peavy was making his first start at Petco Park since being traded during the 2009 season.
The Giants were the first to get on the scoreboard when Matt Duffy singled home Justin Maxwell in the 2nd inning. San Francisco added another run in the 3rd when Nori Aoki scored on a Brandon Belt single.
Matt Kemp got things started in the 4th with a single, Justin Upton would walk to get two runners on with no outs for Yonder Alonso. Alonso put a charge into the ball but Aoki was able to track it down in left field. Will Middlebrooks singled to load the bases. Following a strikeout by Alexi Amarista, 37-year old Wil Nieves, making his first start of the season, would deposit a Jake Peavy cut-fastball into the left field stands, to give the Padres a 4-2 lead on the grand slam.
Gregor Blanco attempted to re-energize the Giants with a triple which would score Maxwell from first. Tyson Ross was able to get Duffy to ground out and then strikeout Yusmeiro Petit in order to avoid any further damage.
An Upton double led off the 6th he would later be driven home when Amarista tripled down the left field line.
Dale Thayer was on in relief of Ross. Ross went 6 innings allowing three runs along with 8 strikeouts. Thayer was fortunate to get Joe Panik to pop into a double play, as Buster Posey would drive the ball out of the park on the very next pitch bringing the Giants within 1 run.
Will Venable stepped to the plate looking to add an insurance run to give the Padres some more breathing room. Venable would smash a fast ball to deep right field for his first home run of 2015, pushing the score to 6-4.
Craig Kimbrel came on and pitched a perfect 9th inning to nail down the series win and record his second save of the season.
Amarista and Kemp each had two hits to lead the Padres offense.
For the Giants, Nori Aoki and Justin Maxwell were pests all day reaching base and scoring 3 of the 4 runs.
The winning pitcher would be Tyson Ross as he improved to 1-0. Jake Peavy was saddled with the loss, 0-1.
The Padres welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to town for a three game set that will begin Monday at 7:10. Andrew Cashner will be opposed by Rubby De La Rosa.
