Another week has gone for the Los Angeles Lakers and it has been another week of seeing a Lakers team trying to stay afloat in the rugged western conference. This time around, the Lakers went 1-3 with their sole victory of the week coming against the Atlanta Hawks which just so happened to be the Lakers’ first game against an eastern conference foe this season.

While the Lakers went 0-3 in their first three games of the week, their most recent game against the Hawks showed a little bit of hope for a struggling Lakers team. Reason being, their hot scorer from last season, Nick Young, played in his first action of the NBA season and played well coming off the bench. Young had 17 points and 5 rebounds on 6-17 shooting and 2-4 from the 3-point line.

The Lakers first game of the week came against the New Orleans Pelicans where the Pelicans would be hot on offense converting on over 50% of their shots and shooting over 40% from the 3-point line. The Pelicans would win 109-102.

Kobe scored 28 points on 10-28 shooting and 5-11 from the 3-point line. The entire Lakers’ starting lineup would be in double digits in terms of scoring for the night. The Lakers’ leading rebounder would actually be Ed Davis from off the bench with 11 boards as Davis continues his impressive season off the bench.

The Lakers’ second game of the week came against the always tough San Antonio Spurs where the Lakers would struggle to get anything going on offense who shot just 37% from the field and 16% from beyond the arch. The Lakers would only net 80 points in this one as they would fall 93-80.

Kobe would be shut down having just one made field goal in the game as Bryant would finish with 9 points on 1-14 shooting.

Carlos Boozer would be the leading scorer for the Lakers (yea, that is never a good sign) with 19 for the game. Lakers’ center, Jordan Hill, would have a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The third game for the Lakers would be against the Golden State Warriors. The high-offensive powered Warriors would showcase all of their scoring ability against the Lakers scoring 136 points for the game. The Warriors would win 136-115.

Even in the defeat, Kobe would have a good game scoring 44 points on 15-34 shooting. Jordan Hill would have another double double having 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lakers 4th game was against the Atlanta Hawks where a victory would be in order with the return of Nick Young. The Lakers would win 114-109.

Several Laker players would be effective on offense with Kobe having 28, Young having 17, Carlos Boozer having 20, Jordan Hill having 18, and Jeremy Lin having 15.

There would also be a total of three double doubles by Laker players (Jordan Hill, Jeremy Lin, Carlos Boozer).

Despite having one horrendous game, Kobe played most effectively for the week (and will do so for the entire season). Still, Kobe had some impressive games scoring 44, 28, and 33 in their three victories for the week. This is why Kobe has to be named the Showtime MVP for week 3.

An honorable mention has to be given to last week’s winner, Jordan Hill, as Hill would at least 10 points in all four games for the week and have a double double in 3 of the 4 games.

Another standout for the week, actually, had to be Carlos Boozer. Boozer averaged 15 points for the week and was arguably the most consistent player for the Lakers.

With Young finally off coming off the bench, this will finally give the Lakers another scoring option other than just Kobe Bryant. We shall see how this will pan out in the next couple weeks and, who knows, maybe Young will become a Showtime MVP for a week or two here at CaliSportsNews.com
